For Personal Protection:
-
Try
not to be out at night alone.
-
Make
sure that your house is well lit at night.
-
Make
sure that you lock your house and vehicle.
-
Do
not pick up hitchhikers.
-
Never
invite a stranger into your house or vehicle.
-
Take
a self-defense course.
-
Never
give out personal information about yourself.
-
Do
not give out personal information over the Internet. Even though you may
feel that you know the person that you are talking to, you can not be 100%
sure that what they have told you is the truth.
-
Always
be cautious. Do your best to be sure of your surroundings.
-
If
there is even the slightest chance that something isn't right, call a friend
or the police for help before taking a chance. It would be better to have
a false alarm than to have something happen.
-
Always
check your vehicle before getting inside. Even though you may have it locked
check your back seat.
The
following story was e-mailed to me a couple of weeks ago.
A
woman at the mall was leaving the building and going toward her car when
a man came running up frantically screaming that his baby was choking and
that he didn't know what to do. He pleaded with the woman to help him.
She went with him to his car to try to help. {What person wouldn't try
to save a baby?} There was no baby. He pushed her into his car, drove her
out to a dark road and raped and beat her.
There
are things like this happening all over the country and it is getting worse.
You can not tell a mugger, rapist, child molester, etc. just by looking
at them. Some of the country's most notorious serial killers and rapists
looked like the boy and/or girl next door. That is how they can repeat
their crimes so many times before getting caught. They look so nice and
act so trusting.
Looking
in the news today you can tell that not all rapists, child molesters, child
kidnappers, child beaters are men. There are a lot of women that are doing
these crimes too. They look like your sister, aunt, mother or grandmother.
When you realize what terrible things that they have done you just can't
believe it.
Thankfully
we live in a pretty good town. We are neighbors and friends that help each
other out. BUT do not let your guard down. Don't kid yourself into thinking
that these terrible things happen to other people. You could be that next
other person. Always be careful. If you are not sure of what you can do
to protect yourself, talk to the Police. They can help you find a self-defense
course to take or give you some pointers on what you need to do.
